For The Employer
Who can claim the workmen’s compensation?
An employee who suffers personal injury in an accident arising out of and in the
course of employment, or the dependants of a deceased employee can claim
workmen’s compensation as assessed under the Workmen’s Compensation Act.
What should the employer do?
When an accident happened, you should send the injured employee to a doctor as
soon as possible. The employer must also report the accident to the Work Injury
Compensation Department at Ministry of Manpower (MOM).
MOM will then send the medical assessment form to the company. Upon receiving the
medical assessment form, the company should, as soon as possible, send it to the hospital,
together with a cheque for processing the medical report.
When can the Assessment of Compensation be done?
Workmen’s Compensation Assessment can be done only if the injured employee has
completed all follow-up and treatment required for the injuries sustained. If your
employee has a follow-up appointment with the doctor, we will hold the assessment
date till he / she has completed all treatments required.
Once the Workmen’s Compensation Assessment appointment is scheduled, our
Medical Records Office staff will inform your company of the date and time. Please
inform your employee accordingly. The appointment for assessment shall be given
only upon receipt of the fee and is dependent on the doctor’s availability. If the worker
failed to turn up for the third (3rd) time, we will suspend the request. An administrative
charge of 1/3 of the cost of the medical report fee is applicable.
Can the company appeal against the sum assessed?
Yes. The company may inform MOM of the objection and request for another
assessment and the Objection report.
For the Objection report, two specialist doctors shall be assigned to assess your
employee. The assessment fee is S$350.00. Appointment for assessment by
specialists will be given upon receipt of the fee. Should the employee miss or did not
turn up for the appointment, the company needs to inform MOM. The fee is not
refundable.
What should I do if the employee leaves Singapore and the company while pending Workmen’s Compensation Assessment?
The company needs to write to inform MOM and the hospital. The doctor will base
on available medical information of the patient to complete the report.
