Referral System
Primary healthcare physicians can refer patients requiring specialist care in Alexandra Hospital through two types of referrals:
Unnamed/General Referral
A patient on an un-named/general referral is seen as a subsidized patient if he is a Singapore Resident who is referred by a government doctor or a hospital without reference to a specialist by name.
Named/Self Referral
A patient on named/self referral is seen as a private patient if he is referred to a specialist by name, by a government doctor or hospital, or if he calls the hospital personally for a referral. All patients on referrals by private doctors or hospitals (whether a general or named referral) and all non-Singapore residents are accorded the status of a private patient.
