| Our primary focus is on Excellence in Patient Care, made possible by 2 important pillars: Learning & Research,Teaching & Sharing.
Excellence in Patient Care
Alexandra Hospital (AH) is committed to excellence in patient care.
Here, patients are our priority and we have worked to support greater patient choice, with the aim of ensuring that our services are better tailored to your needs. We make decisions that will make our patients stay as comfortable as possible; providing them relief from pain as well as educating them
about
their illness.
We have introduced new ways of working and redesigned services around the needs of the patient resulting in better services. New facilities, new staff and new equipment have helped to improve the care we provide. New techniques and working practices to improve the patient experience have all been possible through the hard work and commitment of our staff.
Learning & Research
To stay in the forefront of research, over the past year we have built up the research infrastructure at Alexandra Hospital that are aligned with good clinical practices. Todate, medical staff have participated in more than 20 of clinical improvement projects.
Alexandra Hospital believes in taking lessons in innovation and quality initiatives from a wide array of industries. As part of the learning journey, staff often take road trips to different organizations such as the Ritz Carlton Millennia Hotel, the National Library Board of Singapore and the Toyota manufacturing plant in Japan. Staff have also traveled to learn from hospitals all over the world.
Teaching & Sharing
Since restructuring in the year 2000, Alexandra Hospital has embarked on a journey of learning from the very best, both within and outside of the healthcare industry. Adopting an abundance mindset, Alexandra Hospital believes in sharing with others and since played host to more than 10,000 distinguished friends and visitors from countries including China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Bhutan, United States of America.
A Healing Environment
Research shows that Nature heals. Patients in wards facing greenery recover faster than those facing a wall or building.
Since 2000, staff have put in work and time to ensure that patients have a therapeutic garden to convalescent in. Over the years, the garden has grown to include a 100 species butterfly trail, an ecological garden, a fragrant garden and a medicinal garden with 100 plants that Heal, Thrill and Kill, a book of the same title by Professor Wee Yeow Chin. Read more about the medicinal garden in our May-August 2005 issue of the AHA newsletter!
