Who can claim the workmen’s compensation?
An employee who suffers personal injury in an accident arising out of and in the course of employment, or the dependants of a deceased employee can claim workmen’s compensation as assessed under the Workmen’s Compensation Act.
What should the employer do?
When an accident occur, you should send the injured employee to a doctor as soon as possible. The employer must also report the accident to the Work Injury Compensation Department at Ministry of Manpower (MOM).
MOM will then send the medical assessment form to the company. Upon receiving the medical assessment form, the company should, as soon as possible, send it to the hospital, together with a cheque for processing the medical report.
When can the Assessment of Compensation be done?
Workmen’s Compensation Assessment can be done only if the injured employee has completed all follow-ups and treatments required for the injuries sustained.
Once the Workmen’s Compensation Assessment appointment is scheduled, our Medical Records Office staff will inform your company of the date and time. Please inform your employee accordingly. The appointment for assessment shall be given only upon receipt of the fee and is dependent on the doctor’s availability. If the worker failed to turn up for the third (3rd) time, we will suspend the request. An administrative charge of 1/3 of the cost of the medical report fee is applicable.
Can the company appeal against the sum assessed?
Yes. The company may inform MOM of the objection and request for another assessment and the Objection report.
For the Objection report, two specialist doctors shall be assigned to assess your employee. The assessment fee is S$350.00. Appointment for assessment by specialists will be given upon receipt of the fee. Should the employee miss or did not turn up for the appointment, the company needs to inform MOM. The fee is not refundable.
What should I do if the employee leaves Singapore and the company while pending Workmen’s Compensation Assessment?
The company needs to write in to inform MOM and the hospital. The doctor will assess the available medical information of the patient to complete the report.

How can I claim for Workmen’s Compensation?
To claim for compensation, you must:
- Notify your employer or supervisor of the injury and the date of the accident
- Apply for compensation with MOM within one year of the accident
- Attend all medical appointments
What if I miss the appointment date for assessment?
Please contact the hospital. If you fail to do so, it will result in delay for getting the compensation. Should you miss or not turn up after the hospital have rescheduled the appointment dates for the third (3rd) time, we will write to inform MOM to suspend the request. An administrative charge of 1/3 of the cost of the medical report fee is applicable.
How do I claim if I am no longer working for the company?
You may go to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) for assistance. MOM will assist you with the claim process and write to the company. Alternatively, you may seek help from your lawyer.
Can I appeal against the sum assessed?
